Mercury
Business banking with the balance-funded IO card — the simplest card add-on if you already bank with Mercury.
Overview
Mercury pairs business banking with the IO charge card, a Mastercard-network card issued directly off the Mercury account. The card is cash-underwritten: the spending limit is set by the account balance rather than a credit review, and there is no personal guarantee or personal credit check. The base Mercury plan is free, with no annual card fee and no per-user software charge; a Mercury Plus tier runs $29.90 per month.
The card returns unlimited 1.5% flat cash back on all spend, auto-deposited. Spend management is built in: physical and virtual cards, receipt capture with automatic transaction matching, company-wide spend policies with approval rules, and employee reimbursements. Mercury also includes free unlimited bill pay via ACH, wire, or check, native accounting sync to QuickBooks, Xero, and NetSuite, a public REST API, and SOC 2 Type II compliance. Non-USD transactions carry a 3% currency conversion fee.
Best for
- Businesses already banking with Mercury that want a no-fee card add-on, since the free base plan carries no annual fee or per-user software charge.
- Founders who want to avoid personal liability, with no personal guarantee and no personal credit check required.
- Teams that prefer simple, predictable rewards: unlimited 1.5% flat cash back on all spend, auto-deposited.
- Finance teams wanting spend management and AP in one place: receipt matching, approval workflows, reimbursements, and free unlimited bill pay.
- Teams that need accounting integration and programmatic access, with native QuickBooks, Xero, and NetSuite sync plus a public REST API.
Less ideal for
- Businesses with heavy international spend, since non-USD transactions incur a 3% currency conversion fee.
- Companies that need a credit line independent of cash on hand, because the card is cash-underwritten and the limit cannot exceed the balance held with Mercury.
- Buyers seeking tiered or category-based rewards, as the card offers only a flat 1.5% cash-back rate.
